Brighton a Popular Summer Resort
A popular summer holiday resort for many since the mid 1800s, Brighton has copious amounts of fantastic attractions all along its beautiful coastline. With a sight or sound for all of the family, it is no wonder why Brighton is seen as one of the most heavily visited seaside resorts in the whole of the United Kingdom.
Attracting over 8 million tourists each year, 50 times as many people who actually live in Brighton, one of Brightons most popular attractions is the world famous Brighton Pier. Known originally as the Palace Pier, Brighton Pier began to be created in 1891 and was finished 8 years later at the then staggering cost of 137,000 pounds. Originally Brightons third pier, the other two piers, the Royal Suspension Chain Pier and the West Pier, have both been damaged over the years and whilst the West Pier is awaiting renovation, the Royal Suspension Chain Pier was destroyed completely by a storm in 1896 and was never rebuilt.
Home to a beautiful theatre until 1986, Brighton Pier has many fantastic attractions, including a large amusement arcade and several popular fairground rides, to keep all of the family entertained. Coupled with the many food stalls on and around Brighton Pier, this in itself can make for a fantastic day out during any summer holiday in Brighton.
If taking an early summer holiday to Brighton in May, a visit to the famous Brighton Festival is a must on any itinerary. Established for several decades, Brighton Festival is United Kingdoms largest arts festival. Furthermore, Brighton Fringe Festival runs alongside Brighton Festival and offers a variety of different types of entertainment, most popularly the fantastic array of street entertainment on offer.
One of the Brightons more heavily populated areas is the towns beautiful beachfront. Full of various different restaurants and bars, it seems to many that the area is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with cafes open for breakfast, restaurants for lunch and dinner and then several different bars and clubs open throughout the night.
In addition to the many eateries along the beachfront, Brightons actual beaches are massively popular with all of the family. As Brighton is situated on the south coast of England, it benefits from some fantastic weather throughout the summer months and because of this, Brightons beaches are often full to the brim with people of all ages, families with young children to twentysomething girls topping up their tan and retired couples to groups of friends aiming to have a great day out in the sun.
Since the demolition of Brightons open air lido in the early 1970s, one of the largest marinas in Europe has been stood in its place. Massively popular amongst tourists and locals alike, Brightons marina is a beautiful area and is a fantastic place for a relaxing stroll anytime of the day, week, month or year.
